My birthday was 2 days ago, and my daughter called from Spain to give me some great news.
She has been selected for endorsement for a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford.
Now, that doesn't mean she'll get it (yet). It means she's one of the 700 applicants for 32 US positions that will be selected.
But her school has only had 1 student selected in their history, and her application was strong enough that they came to her, by-passing the normal application process.
Ooops- I think I just popped a couple of buttons off my shirt.
The icing on the cake is that she didn't even go to a "real" school- my wife homeschooled her for her entire scholastic career.
So, I have 2 wonderful smart ladies in my life, who make me very proud.
OK, I guess I'll go back to the garage...

I think that would be called tutoring.
Congrats. Nothing is better than having a child make you proud.
Wow congratulations to you and Mrs. Svrex. As well as congratulations to your daughter.
Congrats Paul, that is awesome news and I know you are extra proud of her today
I'm impressed you have any buttons left at all on your shirt! That's just very, very cool. Congrats to all involved.

Let's hope for your sake she gets it. There will be no keepin' 'er on the farm(and a cheap school) now!
woohoo glad to hear it proud Poppa
That's awesome Paul.
I'm one of those people who is against home schooling...............for most people. You and your wife (I'm sure you helped more than you realize) did an amazing job and you should indeed be proud.
Some of them smartz she has come not from home schooling but from genetics. You might want to give the milk man an I.Q. test just to be on the safe side

I am also against home schooling. I really am. It just appears to be a significantly better option than the brainwashing into the vastness of ineptitude and incapacity to think that we sometimes call "public school".
Besides, it's hard to argue with success.
The 2% of the student population who are pursuing this path are significantly outperforming the 98% of the students pursuing "better" paths (at 20x the cost). I'll be interested to see the makeup of the leadership of this country in 15 years. I'm convinced that the 2% will hold 30% of the leadership roles in society.
I'll consider the milk man thing.

Congrats. Does your wife have a single sister? Just wondering.
Congratulations to all three of you.
Wow! That's one smart girl you have there, Paul! She must get it from her mom... ;)
Seriously, though, crossing my fingers for her!

Not much better than watching your kids succeed. Small success, big success, all good. Congrats, Paul.
