I've just finished watching the series and movie for the first time. Now I see what all the fuss has been about for years. I loved it. Why on why weren't there more.

That's because Fox didn't promote Firefly. If they had it would have reached much farther than cult status. MTV promoted the living E36 M3 out of Jersey Shore.
Honestly, I didn't even know about Firefly until my dad bought the boxed set and was making a big stink about it.
I also shake a finger at SciFi for not picking it up immediately.
