On a flat carpeted surface: Face up, face down, or standing upright?

If its LCD or Plamsa you need to keep it upright or you will have dead pixels when you plug it back in. Or at least that is what I have been told in the past.
Seeing how UPS treats packages, you can probably haul it any way you want. The last one I ordered looked like it passed through a war zone by the time I got it and it worked fine.
I would tape it to a large piece of cardboard or plywood to protect the screen and try to keep it upright or face down on a flat surface.
Thanks everyone!
I'll pad it and stand it upright behind the middle seats, then use the stand it's on to hold it in place.
If it's plasma, it has to be standing up. There's a pane of glass suspended inside that could shatter

Definitely not plasma, though I don't remember if it's LED or LCD...it's probably 6 or 8 years old now. I rarely ever watch TV, I'd be surprised if I've spent 24 hours in front of it since we bought it.

I just did this (60 inch moved 1200 miles). The TV was fine, but the metal base ended up broken

I think ~54" or something close? It made the trip fine & is presently in use...Hawaii 5-0 I think??? That's why I'm on here!
Glad it survived the trip. If I had seen this thread earlier I would have suggested a bike box, especially if it has to stay upright (plasma). They come in all sizes and have convenient handles built in. You could probably pick one up from walmart or target if you don't have a for realz bike shop in town.
