Sit down and watch Shawshank. Absorb how well the director draws you into the slow passage of the days, weeks, years...
After the first 10 minutes of Lebowski, I started waiting for Goodmans character to die. Where he smashes the Corvette up, I fast forwarded to the end to see if he survives. I then shut the movie off in disgust.
Ever been "shanked?" What do I mean? Its about 11:00pm and you're getting ready for bed Because you have to get up at 5. You flip through the tv channels one more time and you see The Shawshank Redemtion is on. Damned if you don't stay up till 2 watching it.
You just got Shawshanked.

I've never seen more than 2 consecutive minutes of any of the Godfather movies, or Goodfellas, or Scarface. Don't really care one way or the other.
I like The Big Lebowski, but I'm not like a Dude-o-phile or anything. I have a thing against mistaken identity tropes, but I don't really hold that against it. It's the generation after mine's version of Repo Man.
If you like Green Mile and Shawshank, watch Stand By Me.
Gone With The Wind is terrible. Terrible! Worse than you can imagine, even by 1930s-40s standards. You're not missing anything.
Strategic Air Command is pure awesome, if only for all the footage of the oddball, obscure early Cold War heavy metal. So is Twelve O'clock High, set in 1942/43 - just an all round fantastic movie.
Quentin Tarentino movies are a bit of an acquired taste. You have to be just old enough to actually remember all the old B-movie references from your own childhood, but not so old that you are repulsed by Tarantino's over-the-top homages. In other words, you need to be the same age as Tarentino +/- about 5 years either way. I also used to think he was an arrogant prick, but now I just think he's socially inept shading towards Asperger's.
Kelley's Heroes is a must-see. Period.

I have a theory that most people actively dislike the Big Lebowski the first time they see it. The characters are unlikable, the central plot conceit is cheesy, and the overall feel of the movie is just...weird. I HATED it the first time I watched it, but I was in college from 2000-2005...so it was on a LOT at parties and friends' houses. After seeing it a few more times, it really sucked me in. Now it's in my top ten.
Also, OP, are you sure you're not a replicant? (Wait, that's going to go over your head. Probably never seen that one either.)
EDIT: Yep, it's even on the list.

So I haven't seen:
The Big Lebowski
The Fifth Element
Blade Runner
Total recall
I haven't seen any of the Back to the Future movies since I was too young to appreciate them, same with Ghostbusters.
The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
The Dark Knight Trilogy (fell asleep when I tried to watch)
The Godfather
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Also, I can't stand Quentin Tarentino movies.
So what are yours?
Based on that list, you should probably avoid movies because you are clearly doing it wrong. (LOL) I'm just kidding of course. You just have to...wait, you don't like Tarentino? Maybe there is no hope for you? OK, OK, no, we can still help. Check out the following list based on your preferences:
• The Little Mermaid
• The Brave Little Toaster
• Veggie Tales: Josh and the Big Wall
• Milo and Otis
• Barney's Great Adventure
I crack myself up. But I do know how you feel, I have not seen Bullitt or LeMans, and I can't stand John Wayne Movies.

I have never seen Le Mans either. I know, I know. Bullit should be seen once all the way through; thereafter, no reason to watch any part that doesn't have the black Charger in it.
I think I've seen everything mentioned in this thread except "Kelly's Heroes" and "The Big Lebowski"
Edit: Oh and some of the kids' cartoons...and I don't think I've seen all of Le Mans...
I've never seen the Godfather movies. So many movies from before about 1980 or so are just so slow that I can't really get into them.
One I wish I could understand the appeal of is Monty Pythons Holy Grail. I've probably tried to watch it a dozen times in nearly every frame of mind/chemical combination and just can't see the humor in it.

QFT. Probably the second most bad-ass movie car of all time. The first, of course, is Dennis Weaver's Valiant from Duel.

HAhahahahaha, this is almost the post I made.
OP, what about
- Better Off Dead
- Big Trouble in Little China

It was a timely movie, shot etc basically the same time as 'Strategic Air Command' and showcases some of Peter Seller's best work, it's also hilarious. Sellers did these three characters:
and nailed every one. He also broke his leg during the filming, that's why Dr. Strangelove is in a wheelchair at the end.
Come to think of it, the early Pink Panther movies are great light fare for a rainy Sunday.
Hey now, let's be nice about The Brave Little Toaster. That was an awesome childhood flick.
I HAVE seen Dr. Strangeglove (thought it was OK), 2001 (epic), The Monty Python stuff (classic), and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (I should probably watch it not sober).
I haven't seen Better off Dead or Big Trouble in Little China.
Like a couple people have said, for some reason I can't get into a whole lot made before 1980 or so. SWMBO is always giving me hell for not appreciating classics, whether it's cars, movies, or music.
Maybe it is the age gap but I just don't care for anything Quentin Tarentino. I've seen most of his movies and meh. When it comes to references/parodies I prefer the the likes of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Community (one of the best shows ever).
I think part of the problem is I prefer TV shows over movies for some reason.
I was going to add Dr. Strangelove. Brave Little Toaster makes me smile, but I LOVE kids animated movies.

Tarantino's an acquired taste thing and not all of his stuff makes the grade. I didn't particularly like 'Kill Bill' but The Inglorious Basterds' was very well done, IMHO. Speaking of that movie, my opinion of Brad Pitt jumped after watching it (he's over the top but that's what Tarantino wanted) and I really liked his performance in 'Fury'.
Speaking of 'Fury': I did a little research into the tanks because I wasn't sure I believed the Tiger could be beaten in the way that was shown or that Shermans were so easily taken out. Turns out the movie is accurate on both counts. Tigers were slow and had thin armor at the rear but had superior guns and front armor. Shermans were considerably faster and more maneuverable than the Tigers but were thinly armored all over and were known to go up in flames pretty quick, they ran on gasoline not diesel. The Germans called them 'Tommycookers' and the Allies called them 'Ronsons' after the cigarette lighter whose slogan was 'lights first time every time'. Brrr.
Of the movies listed in the OP, the only one I haven't seen is "The Fifth Element". The rest I've seen and mostly love.
I'm a huge Lebowski fan, though it did have to grow on me. The first time I saw it I was expecting something more like "Fargo" (which is also amazing), and I was disappointed. But with subsequent viewings it got better and better.
I don't think I can be friends with anyone who doesn't like Tarantino movies.
Well, I'm a mushroom-cloud-layin' motherberkeleyer, motherberkeleyer! Every time my fingers touch brain, I'm Superfly T.N.T., I'm the Guns of the Navarone! +1 on Fargo. The first season of the tv show was also amazing, hands down one of the best shows I have ever seen. Watch the movie first.
I've seen Fargo. That might be the stupidest movie I've ever seen. Pulp Fiction runs a close second. Kill Bill was borderline stupid. Anything else by QT I haven't bothered with. The man's brain is obviously broken in different ways than mine is.

Fargo is the Cohen Brothers, not Tarantino. If that matters.
I liked 'Fargo'. It was definitely different, though. The Cohen Bros. also did 'Raising Arizona' and 'No Country for Old Men' which has the unique ability to make you laugh and be terrified at the same time.

May I ask why? I know so many people my age or younger who act as if any movie made before they were born doesn't exist and steadfastly refuse to even give them a chance. I don't understand the mindset. I'm only 36, but I love old movies with Bogart, Cagney, Mitchum, Newman, Stewart, McQueen, Eastwood, Wayne, Alan Ladd, Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin, Jack Nicholson, Henry Fonda, Peter O' Toole, etc. TCM is one of my most-watched channels.
I don't mean to call you out in particular. The question is open to anyone who doesn't watch old movies: why not?
