Maybe I've watched too many 80's action movies, but every time I read this thread title, I think: "Go for it, that just means that we get to kill you faster."
That and this conference call is making me a little punchy.... sigh, India "Best Shore" PM's....
I am pretty sure we just did a Bork with Bork
or was that a Watergate with Bork...
or maybe a Trick Dick with Bork...
this is starting to sound dirty...

Looks like Riscky's Barbecue in Fort Worth.
No it was Spring Creek. Their meat is better than Riscky's (juicier anyway) and they have bigger baked potatoes and the ROLLS. It's a shame to go to a BBQ joint for the rolls! But they bake them fresh right in front of you can come around every 10 minutes with another batch of fresh rolls.

Well, this didn't take long to get to a seventh page...

OK, I hear Margie. I understand the editorial staff's position - this website exists in service of their magazine, which is a commercial enterprise, at their expense. They don't want to jeopardize the potential revenue stream. I accept that wholeheartedly without a second thought.
What I don't understand is ZW's post above. The internet is like a TV set. It not only has both a volume control and channel changer, but it also has an off switch.
If you don't like a particular type of topic, or what a particular person says (to the point of thinking the forum is being "destroyed" by it), then why not... simply stop reading and responding to those types of post?
I argue against the religious people here, and I argue against the leftists, because I care about those topics and I have an opinion on them. But I never feel that the disagreement itself is a problem. I don't carry a grudge because someone disagrees with me, even if I think that person is also acting like a dick. I just stop being involved with the subject and/or person.

Flounder this into a Texas Barbecue thread and watch it go to page 20!

There is no such thing as Texas Barbecue. There is southern sweet barbecue, and there are 1000 ways to do it wrong.

The wheels didn't fall off. Margie just torqued the lugs to spec and reminded everyone where to find the information in the owner's manual, is all.
I can see how the ebb and flow of political discussion is going to get a lot more heated and filled with trash during a major election year, but count me among those that gets really tired of all of the political posturing that happens in some of the threads. If I want that kind of misery, I can go to any number of other forums available and pound on my keyboard and scream at my monitor until I lose my voice, and nobody there is going to care.
I did kind of want to use the picture of me holding a flounder a bit more, though.

As stated earlier, some of the most benign threads have a way of floundering. So we follow a thread about gas mileage, which leads to a discussion on energy policy, which then flounders into partisan bullE36 M3. There's no "changing the channel" if every channel becomes infected with invective. Plus, it's not just GRM, it's the cumulative weight of the entire internet being turned into a jingoistic battleground. It would be nice if there was one place where one could turn off the noise.
These people are trying to run a couple of car magazines. Whatever success brings to them can be destroyed too easily. This is not Ziff-Davis or any other publishing empire that can absorb the bad manners of a few people who don't get it. If advertisers jump ship, there isn't another 10 publications to pick up the slack until the heat dies down. This is it.
For anyone who feels it necessary to spew forth, go to Fox or MSNBC and have at it. They have bazillions of sponsors and gazillions of dollars. A few more extremist or racist statements won't hurt them at all.
How wrong you are. Texas BBQ isn't that dessert BBQ sauce so many are fond of. It has a little sweetness and then pounds of awesome flavor.
And vinegar base BBQ sauce is just wrong on so many levels. I grew up with vinegar based sauces and hated it. I didn't think I even liked BBQ at all till this one time down in Fla............
Then I moved to Texas and decided I loved it.

Sonny Bryant's. The old stand on Inwood in Dallas where you sit on those chairs taken from an old elementary schools. Then there is that place out in Oak Cliff...
