Love that Lola! I had that kit for a while, but sold it because I never thought I'd get around to building cars.
The Tamiya Mercedes is just clicking together. They provide the chrome Mercedes emblems and mirrors as chrome stickers. All I lack on the cockpit is to make seat belts and add the roll cage.

Tamiya does such a nice job on everything. You get what you pay for. I am a big fan of current GT3 and GT4 racing, but need to build what I have, not buy more kits. There are at least 50 on my shelf and I am too old to finish them all.

GT3 & GT4 are my favorite series. I keep hoping Nunu will continue their modern race car trend and release a Huracan GT3 and 488 GTE. Tamiya already has the licensing for Honda, so they could (hopefully) do an NSX GT3. I just started building cars a few years ago, so I've been able to keep that pile of kits to a manageable level. My airplane stash is another story....
I really need to get some big project done so I can get back to building.
That yellow Vette is looking great!
Precut masks and fast drying paint for the win! Decals will cover the areas where the paint got under the masks, but I'm going to fix them, anyway, just in case something doesn't line up. I should have hit the edges of the masks with clear gloss to seal them, but I got lazy this time.

Nice job.
For some reason, this part scares me more than the doors. I guess because I don't have door lines to follow.
In reply to slowbird :
Lay down a strip of tape to follow as a cutting edge.

I will ad to Javelin's comment that you should perfect the straight line on the replacement part before you cut into the original. Also consider making it sloped in side profile to increase the bonding area.
The Lola body panels are ready for color.
I was using alcohol and a q-tip to remove some paint I'd screwed up on the ducts that go behind the front wheels. The bottle slipped while I was dipping the q-tip and alcohol splashed on the body. So, more touching up to do. Dammit.
I wouldn't say this is going *well* per se, but it is at least going. Probably not a one-month build in retrospect. I'll continue working on it after March ends. I think I need to put primer on it to see how much more sanding and filling needs to happen.
My February Speeweeks build has spilled over into my March build. I got the three colors on it well. Now for decals.
I need to dig out my piles of model kits and look into building some of them when I finally get my large project down, its gotta be a slightly less expensive hobby....
I'm making slow progress. Trying to avoid model build burnout actually. I've built more models in the last year than the last two decades.
First color on the Lola. I think it is ready for clear now too, the color shot really well. It is acrylic lacquer home mix with a base of the light shade I mixed for the Ferrari Daytona Spyder (Leesonal BMW silver and Duplicolor GM light blue from 1986) darkened down with a mix I did for an AC Bristol (same Duplicolor plus House of Color Royal Blue Candy) about 4 years ago. Save all paint dregs!
Making some progress on the decals. It never ceases to amaze me how well these decal designers draw their decals to fit the topography of the model. Much more difficult than even the more complex airliner decals, where you're still just basically making a decal fit a tube.
Wow, almost a week and no posts.
Just finished! Lots of decals, but they fit perfectly. The kit itself was almost like putting together LEGOs.

That's insane. Great job.
In reply to BenB (Forum Supporter) :
Stunning.
I'm fighting against burnout, I think. Easy for me to get sidetracked and work on other things instead of the main build. It happens with all of my hobbies, as I cycle between them to keep myself from getting bored.
That Mercedes looks awesome though. Really love the Wynn's colors.

I try to keep multiple projects going, too. These builds we've been doing here have caused me to focus more on getting one thing done relatively quickly and it's really helped me put a dent in the size of my stash.
Thanks for the kind words about the Merc, guys!
