The wife and I are heading to Metro DC for Easter. We are visiting her sister and bringing with us our 6 month old little girl.
We will bringing a lot of kid stuff including Pack and Play along with stroller, etc. Add to this my wife's needs for a week and me bringing some work items and space will be tight in the '10 Mazda 5.
My first thought was to rent something larger but lack of planning along with prime Easter Travel has rental rates over $300 for a week.
Second thought is rooftop box. I can borrow a box from a friend but our Mazda 5 does not have roof bars.
Here are some $227 roof bars on Amazon
Does anyone have either a hook-up for a rental discount through Enterprise or Hertz (others are about 1 hour from my house) or a good source or recommendation on roof bars?
Thanks.
i have not much to add other than i waited for 2 years to find roof bars at the junkyard for the rendezvous, and a few months later my wife crashed it.
universal?

Those look like just the cross bars and you need to have the front to back rails already on the car.
Do you already have a trailer hitch installed? The hitch mount rack from harbor freight is less than 100 dollars.
Here is a photo sample of showing with and without.
In "roof channel" there are factory mounting points for the roof racks on all models even if you did not get the optional rails.
We have no trailer hitch either.
The $99 HF version calls for a Class III hitch. I dont think I can get that for a Mazda 5 that really has zero tow capability.
I am also less interested in additional rearward weight considering the "trunk" area will already likely be filled to the top. (lots of rear weight.)
On topic but little off topic any recommendations on a mazda5 roof rack for kayaks?

On the in-laws MZ5 they have the Thule feet with fitting that bolt right into the factory roof rack points, and it works great, is easy to attach, and very secure. It was not cheap though.
Update: I bought the Rola 59834 Mazda 5 Cross Bars from the Amazon link above and then borrowed a box from friends.
The box is the Sears X-Cargo XL20. This is the largest that Sears sells at 20 cubic feet of storage.
Photo taken at friends house as we got it onto the car.
His final words were, "There ya are , Clark."

I kind of wish more people would "get" this concept. Instead of buying something huge because you might need that capacity at some point, buy something smaller that you can use 90% of the time, and accessorize to get you through that other 10%.
