Is Captains post dark, 100%, offensive? Probably. Here's the issue with being the meme police, 6 posts down from that is a post making fun of Steve Irwin's death. That's dark, and offensive as well. It has 8 thumbs up. Should that be removed too?

If you find that meme offensive, maybe call for actual meaningful gun control? I can't even remember how many school shootings ago I first saw it. Sometimes the things that hurt us the most hurt because they're the truth laid bare.
I'm not understanding the offensive bit here. I've also shared the meme with some teacher friends waiting to hear back. I don't see anything offensive about it. I see it calling out an awkward truth about this country compared with the rest of the world. And I'm not sure how that is offensive. Uncomfortable maybe, but we do need to take a long hard look at ourselves.

I would love to have an open discussion about this and would speak from a gun enthusiasts POV, however, this being the internets it would get locked down pretty fast I think.

I posted that, and point taken.
It IS offensive. The fact that it's relevant content and that we know and understand the context because it happened IS offensive as well. Without getting political, I'm not going down that wormhole, It is on us as a society to make sure that a similar meme wouldn't be relevant in the future.
It should be offensive, It should be ugly and it should piss people off. The question I have is what are we going to do to prevent it from occurring again. And when I say it I do not mean the posting of a meme, but rather the act the inspired it's creation.

(Also there is no reason to respond to this post, as no discussion needs to be had regarding it. If people want to continue to debate the level of appropriateness or context of the meme itself, have at it, as it's almost as if that was it's intent...)
