I just picked up some fresh asparagus and I'm stoked! I'd like to maximize the chances of my kids liking it. So far, I have Baked Asparagus with Balsamic Butter Sauce and Pan-Fried Asparagus with Garlic.
Anybody got any other suggestions? I think my 5-year old would probably like Aspargus with Strawberry Syrup and Ketchup, but I can't find a recipe anything like that.

I usually get some salt, some butter, slather that on it, and roast it in some tinfoil on the grill.

I like them soaked in olive oil, pepper, and salt for couple hours, then put on the grill. Sprinkle some Parmesan on there while its cooking, and you are good to go.
My favorite is marinated in some olive oil, balsamlic and garlic. Then either spread flat on a cookie sheet and roasted in the oven or on the grill. A little squeeze of lemon at the end is nice too.
To get the kiddies interested maybe do an au'graten?
If you have any left over chop it up the next morning for a great frittata.
Roast it in the oven in a baking pan with a little Bragg's and some crushed red pepper!
My favorite asparagus recipe is as follows:
Take freshly cut asparagus and place it in the trash can. Order the Chinese food of your choice.

^^ I'm gonna have to try that! Last time I made asparagus I steamed it in my rice cooker, then tossed the hot spears with some teriyaki sauce, minced pickled ginger, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. No guarantee that kids will like it but the adults will.
I hated asparagus when I was a kid. Sometime in my late teens I tried it and found that that was no longer the case. Now I love it.

Olive Oil rolled in it, and the Grill it! Yum!
Cut off/break off the woody ends, lightly cook with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and cook it however you like: Grilled is my favorite, although I always seem to lose a stalk or two to the Grill Gods. Sauteed is great as well, especially since I no longer have a grill. I like my veggies crispy, almost raw, so when sauteeing them I just give them a flash in the pan.
When asparagus was really cheap, I made asparagus soup. It was a few years ago, but I think I sauteed some shallots and garlic in a deep stock pot, added a few cups of chicken broth, which I used to steam the asparagus above. When the asparagus was done, I added them to the broth below, then pureed the mixture a little bit at a time in a blender. I then seasoned to taste with parmigianno-reggiano, salt, and pepper.
olive oil - grilled on charcoal grill with some apple wood chips - little salt - very basic.
Yuck. Makes your urine smell awful.
Just don't cook it to a mush! I had canned asparagus as a kid and loathed it until I tried it fresh once I was out on my own.

Two ways, one similar to several above: olive oil and kosher salt and either on the grill or under the broiler.
OR...
Steam and serve with a good hollandaise. This is how I had it as a kid, and I never had a don't-like-asparagus phase...
Wash, salt, eat. That or grilled with salt and butter

get it olive oily and sprinkle it with freshly made coarse breadcrumbs and fresh shredded Parmesan. Sprinkle with a little basil and oregano - bake.
White or green?
The standard "German" way for white asparagus is to peel it (keep the peelings to make a broth), cook the asparagus in salt water, then serve it with cooked ham (cold or slightly warmed) and potatoes, put melted butter. Lots of melted butter .
I'm sure there is a way to substitute bacon for the ham but I think I'd prefer the ham for this recipe.
Quickly steamed with a little butter on it, or grilled with a touch of olive oil, or stir fried in a chinese dish. My grandmother would make guacamole with it, steam the asparagus, put it in a food proscessor and then use your favorite guacamole recipe substituting the avocado with the asparagus. It is very tasty.

Whoa! Never thought of that....
I usually grill mine, and baste it with a combo of soy sauce, mirin (the really sweet & thick Japanese cooking wine) and some crushed garlic cloves. I usually lay multiple stalks side by side on a pair of skewers (it looks like a raft when you're done) so that I don't have to worry about them falling through the grill.

Starts at the store. Buy the skinny ones, not the fat ones. They're like little french fries when they're done. Clean, snap off ends, add chopped garlic, olive oil, CRUSHED WALNUTS. Put in broiler and keep an eye on 'em. They won't take long at all, and mushy asparagus is nasty. Toss on a little bit of Parmesan at the end.
Mamma has also done 'em wrapped with Prosciutto. I'm sure you can find that recipe on food network or some E36 M3e.
For the KIDS:
Hint: Everything is better with bacon. Every vegetable is better with HOLLANDAISE!!! From scratch, of course.
