I think here in Ohio they will try to make it through Friday with the Public Schools and then not re-open for Monday.
Our school districts in our county made a statement that they are all open and will make the decision to close collectively with the guidance of the county health dept. However, one school district that straddles the line with my county and the next county over has stated that no kids in for Friday as teachers only report and then meet for Virus planning and preparation.
Effective immediately, no spectators at school sports. School play, etc postponed.
Our County just canceled all field trips sporting activities and everything that's not school. Which sucks cuz my daughter's robotics team was supposed to be practicing it in the big pool this weekend

My school has reported a confirmed case (faculty) as of today. We had already cancelled the rest of the week, and moved instruction online for next week. The following week is spring break, so that gives us 2.5 weeks to see how things go. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the semester is put online, but local measures have been pretty draconian, so I figure there's a chance new cases will have peaked by then. The students I saw yesterday didn't seem too bothered by the whole thing.

FWIW, I'm using this site that's sponsored by Johns Hopkins for metrics as it's nearly real time and esthetics are very good.
I'm interested in watching the growth rate which I estimated the baseline to be 1.23 (23% day over day increase in confirmed cases).
Today is a bad day as we're now at 1,135 confirmed cases which I believe will be well above the 1.23 number.
This is the site I have been using.
Last night we were just below 1000, so we are below the 1.23 for today so far.
We're now at 1276, so I guess we're over the 1.23 now.
I'm not panicking yet. I'll admit I originally had the common view it's getting blown out of proportion because the flu kills more every year, but I'm starting to realize that it's not the number (yet), but the fact that we understand the flu. We know how it spreads and have somewhat effective preventatives. We don't seem to know anything about this yet and the fact that you are contagious with no symptoms starts to make shutting down big events much more logical.

Our university extended spring break through the end of the month. All classes will be online only after that until further notice. Dorms will be open but students are encouraged to stay at home if possible. All special events are canceled. This is in line w/ about ten other universities in this end of the state.
Saw a news poll regarding no fans at the NCAA tournament. Only 30% agreed w/ the no fan protocol.
I was indifferent at first w/ limiting contact but it's their call. I can live w/ that.
Where are all the teachers getting lesson plans to teach on-line ?
And what happens if the student does not have internet at home ?

So....Disney can't get hand sanitizer now. Or gloves. That's a little scary.
As an introvert I can't help but feel I've been unknowingly preparing for this my entire life.

As a fellow introvert and moderate germophobe, I find this is requiring very little adjustment to my daily routine.
As a hoarder I have enough stuff around here to keep going for months ,
and if they say to stay at home I can get some work done on my house and cars :)
I really hope it does not get as far as banning car shows , swap meets etc ,
I am a moderate introvert and not a germophobe. I haven't adjusted my routine at all other than minor travel restrictions at work. I am absolutely willing to do so when that recommendation comes from work, my sons school, the govt, etc.
What shocks me is some of the people I know that say things like (because they are young/healthy) "Its not going to kill me, so why should I stop doing anything?"

This has been a frustrating point I've tried to keep making to people who think this isn't a big deal.
Yeah, YOU may be fine, but you may pass the virus on to someone else who it could possibly kill...soo...maybe a bit of precaution is warranted.

Went to the basement to get some tomato sauce and realized our emergency food was just about gone - which makes sense because it isn’t an emergency store so much as where we keep the non perishables.
So I made my Costco run this morning. Got there 20 minutes after they opened. It was as busy as I’ve ever seen it, including in the holiday season. I saw people walking out with TP, but I didn’t see any in the warehouse.
Ill admit that I bought more than I anticipated, but mostly because a lot of it was on sale.
Interesting article that Wally shared on FB. https://qz.com/1816060/a-chart-of-the-1918-spanish-flu-shows-why-social-distancing-works/

The guy I work with who is all "It doesn't affect me so why should anyone else care?" is in his late 50s, smokes like a chimney, and rattles so much when he coughs (constantly) that he'd be deep in the 60% of Americans who have comorbidity with the COVID-19.
I really wonder how much of the run on items at Costco and Sams Club are people trying to gouge fear- by reselling it on Amazon and Ebay.... I know there are real Amazon stores that search the country's brick and mortar stores for sales to sell on line....

Some of those people at work, too- but less and less every day.
Funny yesterday that "this is what fear looks like" when the cafeteria logically moved to no-self serve salad bar. I've been on multiple cruises during or just after an outbreak- they very quickly go to servers in the buffet. And as bad of a rap they get for people getting sick, they really know how to contain a known virus. People are constantly bringing something on ships, and they have really honed dealing with it.

It’s their own twisted version of the old politician’s saying of never let a good crisis go to waste.
All Florida state Universities students who are on spring break are being told not to come back for at least two more weeks. The University of Florida is switching to all online classes Monday (3/16/2020) and urging students to "go home". If the students listen our town will lose over 60k population in the next week or so. Hope you aren't in or planning to go to Europe in the next month...
The NBA season was just put on hold.
Now time to panic?

If that's not enough, the virus has now come for America's Dad. Tom Hanks and his wife have tested positive.

Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have it. Yikes.
My day job told us today that we all have to work from home indefinitely starting Monday. Going to be really weird. At least the commute will be shorter!

I'm in OKC and we almost went to tonight's game. As I mentioned before, my girlfriend has RA and is in immuno supressant drugs for it.
As much as has changed today, I'll just say I'm much less glib about the situation than I was 12 hours ago.

I was starting to get there a few days ago, but I think it's safe to say that today is the day it became very real for a lot of folks.
