Ah, the Mazda6. The sporty Mazda3’s bigger brother just got even chunkier. In its third generation now, Mazda has followed today’s automotive styling trends to a tee: “That looks good. Now make it bigger. And then, let’s make it bigger.” Its wheelbase is now just a foot shorter than that of a 2014 Ford F-150. We’re not saying that’s good or bad. We’re hoping it signifies a nice spacious interior.
Mazda continues to push the Skyactiv systems, which is just marketing jargon for technology to give you a more efficient car. The Skyactive features can’t be nailed down to a few features, either. It’s simply a term used to encompass all the ever-evolving product technologies Mazda uses to save you money at the pumps. The example we drove was the Grand Touring, which claims to accomplish 40mpg on the highway—not half bad for such a large car. So thank you Skyactive, whatever you are.
Looking for a roomy, attractive four-door sedan that won't steal your soul--and has a very, very attractive price tag? Here's the answer.
I'll be honest: The previous Mazda6 didn't do much for me. It was kind of soft me-too sedan living in a crowded marketplace. (And we're talking about the non-turbo one here.)
The new Mazda6 totally kicks the snot out of that field. It drives like something worthy of the Mazda badge. Interior space is huge. The trunk is bigger than my first apartment. And I think it looks like a million bucks.
And check this out: The six-speed manual box is a choice with every option package. So for $21,190 you can drive a Mazda6 sporting three pedals.
One more thing. I know that a lot of people out on the internets want a diesel-powered Mazda6. The standard Mazda6 gets 25/37 with the stick and 26/38 with the auto. I have seen numbers in that range without even trying. You know, for regular old boring unleaded, I'm cool with that kind of economy.
Nice job, Mazda.
I think it is still that glitch with all updates to online GRM articles are getting posted here.
Anyhow test drove car. Loved it. Wife loved it. But hated dealer experience. Next nearest dealer too far away. No sale.
I was trying to push the wife into buying a Mazda6 but Mazda can't get seat heaters and a clutch pedal into the same car.
Hello used A4.
