Does a top that goes down make the Audi S5 more thrilling?

It’s not a Miata. It’s not a Corvette. It’s not an alternative to any kind of BMW Z4.

It is, however, a premium, very comfortable, four-place convertible that can swallow a folding card table while delivering relaxing highway miles.

A card table is now the usual benchmark for trunk space? Okay, maybe it’s not the industry standard, but I found that one perfectly clicks into the Audi S5’s truck–like the two were made for each other in some kind of cosmic setup.

Even those not carrying a card table will enjoy the Audi S5. Its 349-horsepower V6 delivers smooth power at seemingly every spot on the tach. Its Tiptronic might sound a bit classic these days, but it’s as seamless as today’s twin-clutch units.

Is this a competitor to a Mercedes-Benz C- or E-Classic Cabriolet? I think you can say yes. The Audi just delivers a sportier package, though. So while it’s not a Miata, Corvette or Z4, it does move the needle in that direction.

TL;DR: Looking for a fast, comfortable, higher-end convertible? This could be your chariot.
