What is it?

Jim Murphy has a car-rental program aimed at gearheads like us. He now owns Del Long’s amazing Jeep–E Modified tube-framed racer and is looking for drivers for the Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals. The goal is to unseat reigning champ Jeff Kiesel. Murphy will be renting the Jeep to drivers at SCCA Tour events, with the top hotshoes getting to drive at the season finale. For details, contact Jim Murphy.

What Is It?

This amazing “Jeep” graced our cover before. Why did we put Jeep in quotes? Because it’s really one of Del Long’s wild creations: lots of power packed into a lightweight, tube-framed autocross special.

The lightweight aluminum body was built to replicate a 1946 Jeep. In this case, the 400 rear-wheel horsepower comes from a turbocharged GM four-cylinder engine–basically what powered the Cobalt SS. A Doug Nash two-speed gearbox sends power to a Speedway Engineering 8-inch rear axle. Total weight without driver is 1575 pounds.

I'd drive that sucker like a Jeep is meant to be driven!
