Race car haulers can haul more than just race cars.

German tuning house GMP Performance plans to load up its race car haulers with hurricane supplies and send them to Boone, North Carolina, later this week.

How you can help: The shop’s crew is seeking supplies–more info below–and reminds us that they have a loading dock that can accept large items.

Deadline: They ask that supplies be dropped off by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, at either of the company’s locations:

  • GMP Performance Charlotte: 710 Pressley Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28217
  • GMP Performance Lake Norman: 292 Rolling Hill Road, Mooresville, North Carolina 28117

More from the release:

Our goal is to bring whatever we have and also pick up excess supplies at donation centers along the way up. We are hearing that airports cannot transport heavy items such as water, so we hope to help get those pallets moving. Our trailers are designed to load low cars, and we will be able to use pallet jacks to load bulk items as well as any other single packages.

We are currently focused on collecting as many supplies as possible and are reaching out to various donation centers in the area surrounding Boone. If you know any donations centers that need help moving supplies up the mountain, please let us know.

Items that are needed:

Water, Non-Perishable Food Items, Sports Drinks, Baby Wipes, Diapers (Children & Adults), Baby Formula, Bug Spray, Plastic Utensils, Manual Can Openers, Plastic Sheeting & Tarps, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Toiletries/Sanitation Items, Pet Food, Hand Sanitizer, Feminine Hygiene Products, Heavy Duty Work Gloves, Socks - All Sizes (Unopened).

The area of Eastern Tennessee/Western North Carolina has been hit hard. The stories I've been hearing from my friends in the area have been heartbreaking. These folks certainly could use the help.

It is just heartbreaking.

A friend of mine just posted a photo of the inside of her fridge: The crisper is full of brown water. That’s how high the floodwaters got.

Got a note from GMP thanking for the support. Just a bump since the truck leaves Wednesday.

I saw on Cledus McFarland's IG account, he's been using his helicopter to shuttle supplies to the hardest areas - the  ones that are completely cut off. (And camping out at Gregg Biffle's house while this is ongoing.) I think 6 or 8 people have brought their helicopters to do the same.

Yeah, good to see the motorsports community pitching in.

Racing for ALS is sending “at least five” haulers.
