What do you call hundreds of cars descending on Pacific Grove, California, to celebrate the start of Monterey Car Week? Our annual Monterey Kickoff, presented by Hagerty and eBay Motors in association with Monterey Touring Vehicles and Reliable Carriers–and with special thanks to the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce for again helping host the gathering.

A year after having to go virtual for the 2020 event, we welcomed a record-breaking crowd to our free, real-life cruise-in car show on August 10. The machines included everything from old-school MGs to high-tech Lamborghinis.

Of course, we also had plenty of prizes and awards to give away, with trophies presented by CovercraftThe Monarch PubMotulZ Car GarageUUC MotorwerksTechtonics Tuning and Moss Motors, plus prizes presented by RD EnterprisesKip Motor CompanyPorsche ClassicNational Parts DepotCenterline Alfa and Mercedes Classic.

We’ll be holding our Kickoff in Pacific Grove again next year, and we’d love to see you in 2022, whether you’re coming for the day or the whole Monterey Car Week. Yes, we saw a much bigger crowd than expected this year, and the staff thanks those who took advantage of the overflow parking.

Here are some of our favorite cars from yesterday's event:

I have a friend of mine that is down there attending all the events (family member helps run one of them, so he gets in to a bunch of places).  They were driving to an event yesterday and had to turn around because these were parked up at the Holiday Inn....

Very cool on the Ferrari 308 GT2 car. There are a few of them out there.

I like that variety of cars, perhaps better than the Carmel street event a few years ago which felt like 80% air cooled Porsches. For my reference next year, what is the parking situation for visitors? Is it fighting for random street parking with neighborhood restrictions in Pacific Grove or pretty easy to find a spot?
