Love IT!
After nearly 10 years with its current van, a 2006 Ford E-250, Grassroots Motorsports is proud to announce the newest member of its fleet: a brand-new 2016 Ford Transit 250.
This van has a number of spiffy features requested by both readers and GRM’s helmeted fleet of van pilots. Tom Suddard, director of van acquisitions, said: “This new van has 37 percent more interior volume than the outgoing one, which should allow us to carry more magazines, T-shirts and other great gear to events like the Grassroots Motorsports Experience at the Rolex 24 At Daytona or the Grassroots Motorsports $2016 Challenge.”
“In addition,” he continued, “we specced the optional twin-turbocharged Ecoboost V6, which should drop our quarter-mile times significantly.” The interior will come gutted, both to reduce race weight and to prevent magazine boxes from scuffing up any delicate plastics.
The new van should have us arriving refreshed and ready. Its better fuel economy should leave us with some lunch money at events.
At the request of GRM’s staff rally navigator, the passenger seat has been retained. Suddard added that a limited-slip differential was also ordered due to the previous van’s inability to put the power down on corner exit—and fully navigate muddy fields.
Once preliminary testing has been completed and optimal tire pressures set on the skidpad, this new van will represent GRM at dozens of events each year. Anyone who spots it in the wild is welcome to say hello, although the driver may request two to four tires (plus fuel) depending on current race position.
A T-shirt sporting artwork depicting the new GRM van can be purchased through the magazine’s Zazzle store.
Did not expect that.
And for once, I'm really familiar with that powertrain. I think the last GRM car that I could say that was Per's GTV, but this one is just a little closer...
Is the GRM series Transit body on frame? Do they share running gear / frames with the F-150's like the E-series vans of old?
The new Ford vans, like some of their contemporaries, feature a unibody.
But it still keeps the drive wheels at the correct end. Only thing I'd suggest is that you should have gotten the dually for better launch traction
These things are so much nicer to drive than Econolines.
If you guys don't mess with the boost after it's no longer the be-nice-it's-new van, though....
