Glad I don't have anything that wears 225/45/17 tires.
The SCCA’s new Solo Spec Coupe class for the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S mandates the Falken Azenis RT615K+, and we have seen some concerning internet chatter: There ain’t no more tires!
Well, perhaps the sky isn’t falling. Tire Rack, the sole supplier for the required spec parts, has Falkens in stock.
The Tire Rack’s Woody Rogers explained the situation to the SCCA Solo Spec Coupe Facebook group:
“To make sure there is a steady supply of tires for SSC competitors until overall supply levels improve, Tire Rack has worked to secure all remaining Falken inventory, and has already set aside several hundred tires specifically for use by SCCA members competing in the SSC class. For these members to get access to the tires the ordering process will work just like the spec suspension components - SCCA members will need to provide their membership number when placing their order online or over the phone. Once membership is verified the tires will be released for shipment.”
He expanded upon that when talking with us: “Order online and use the special SSC car make/mode/year info and put your SCCA membership number in the Comments section. Or call in and tell your sales rep these are for SSC, and provide your membership number. Once verified, tires ship. Unless there is an unforeseen land rush, supply is OK.”
