A couple months ago, we announced that the SCCA was going to start campaigning their Bracket Enduros, a new take on endurance racing. Last weekend, the first of these events was held at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, in Thompson, Connecticut. The race lasted 11 hours, broken up over Saturday and Sunday.
In short, the goal of this new program “is to get more people involved in road racing who may not have access to a fully-prepped race car, built to the full requirements outlined in the SCCA General Competition Regulations.” The rules also create close competition across all classes and tend to reward consistency over speed. So how did the theory play out in real life? We hear it went extremely well. In fact, the third place overall spot went to a team called “Half Mast Racing” in a tired old Nissan 240SX. When we say “tired,” we mean it. We hear at one point it went 60,000 miles without an oil change in the hands of a previous owner.
