Love seeing these longterm builds shared here. Thank you, everyone.
For a first GRM build, forum user kevinatfms set out to find an inexpensive car to go wheel-to-wheel racing in with “a few of my lunatic friends.”
After looking through a number of potential candidates like the Nissan Sentra, Hyundai Accent, Ford Focus and even Chevy Cobalt, kevinatfms decided to seek out a Hyundai Elantra.
Why the Elantra? As kevinatfms explains, “as my last one (a champagne colored one) rusted to death after MANY years of faithful service.”
As fate would have it, a potential candidate was found on Craiglist:
The story goes that the car was wrecked when the seller’s brother got into an accident while intoxicated. (Don’t drink and drive, kids.)
Now, however, the Hyundai has gotten the full track car treatment with a stripped interior, roll cage, and a number of speed parts.
To see all the work that went into turning this busted Elantra into a well-rounded track car, check out the “2002 Hyundai Elantra Auto-X/Chump/Lemons Build Log” thread over on the Builds and Project Cars Forum.
