Maybe the BatVan could come back and actually compete.
It's not just the cars we want to see again, it's the people.
The rotary Isetta was one of the more interesting creations we've seen.
Who remembers the Cheaparall?
And let's not forget the Zamboni that could transform into a Locost.
If you do you the math—$2000 Challenge-style at least—the Grassroots Motorsports $2015 Challenge marks the 15th anniversary of our Challenge events—since we skipped 2000. We already have more entrants this year than we did at this time last year. We have Al Unser Jr. coming, I just asked Amelia Island Concours founder Bill Warner if he will help with judging, and we have even more cool stuff planned.
I propose that we see how many Challenge cars from past years we can return for our big 15th anniversary event. Mike Guido, where is that midget? How about the Zamboni, the Cheaparall, the V8 Datsun 510 from San Diego, the 500 cubic inch Cadillac powered BMW or the rotary Isetta?
We want to see these cars and their drivers—or new drivers if they have been sold—back for the $2015 Challenge. We know where some of them are. But we want to invite back the cars and the people that made this event what it is today. Heck, we might even let Wayne and the evil Hong Norr guys back, as long as we have decent security.
So how many of these cars and drivers can we get back?
Thanks to all who have made these events so great over the last 15 years. Let’s make this one the biggest bash of them all.
We’ve made registration easier this year. Click here to sign up. All we need right now is very general information on your entry and team.
HI i was at the 1999 challenge, lot of fun, but i was not prepared for the politics (or with my car 1985 Nissan 2L turbo). i showed up with street tires, some showed up with road race slicks, guess who never had a chance?? and i spent not quite $1999. dont know what the others spent.
but it is a fun time, and you comrade with all types of cars and people!
I wonder if anyone competitive runs regular street tires now adays?
Maybe they need a non race tire award. Best combined score in the drag and the autocross on a tire with say a 400 tred ware or higher.
In reply to ronbros9:
Tires are not included in the budget as a safety precaution. With that being said, I hope the competition didn't drive you away permanently. We'd love to have you back!
In reply to dean1484: That's an interesting idea. I'll bring it up with Rick when he gets back from Monterey.

There were politics in 1999 for the challenge?
As for the tires, we did '02, 03, and 04 with R-compound tires, but they were factored into the budget back then. Not sure why that would be an issue- given the performance benefit, they were worth budgeting in.

Do it! I haven't been around here long enough to have seen that one in person.
I still have the first MR2 we competed with, but it has evolved to a track event car and is no longer a $2015 car, closer to $4000.
Man, what I would give to show up with my $2004 challenger, Sr. Frog, a "tricked out" 1995 Saturn SL2... After the event, he became my daily driver, still in full Challenge regalia - GRM number panel, CRC, Kumho, and PRDA decals. Alas, Sr. Frog went out with his boots on, blowing up the transmission (launching a diff pin) on the homeward commute 9 months after the event.
