You Need This: Modern Racer With Vintage Looks

No, this isn’t a vintage racer. Instead, this SSZ Stradale Mark 2 is a tube-frame racecar built in 1994 specifically for Pirelli World Challenge competition. The powertrain is just about as unexpected as the bodywork: A 3.0-liter Alfa Romeo V6 engine powers the car. Want to call this unique racer your own? It’s being auctioned off on Bring a Trailer, and the auction ends two days from the time of this writing.

Looks like that car is sparking a bit of a controversy in the form of comments from the builder..

Agreed. Needs something besides burple and white. And a different shape on on the livery. 2/10 wouldn’t bang.

In reply to dculberson :

Yeah, if the builder's comments are to be believed, that car needs more than a paint job...

Why is a 24-year-old car - of a design first built 34 years ago - with a beam axle billed as a "modern racer"? Yes, the body is a variant of something even older (the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale of the 1960's), but the chassis is hardly "modern".
