Your Projects: Low-Buck Lap Dog

“It’s a polished turd, but the Rust-Oleum comes out decent in pictures,” Greg Stewart writes of his Datsun. “And another team said it was ‘too sexy for LeMons.’”

Greg originally intended to enter the 1976 Datsun 280Z in one of our $2000 Challenge events, but the car turned out to be in worse shape than he thought. So he got it running and entered the BABE Rally instead. Then it sat for a year before its LeMons debut.

“At our second race, we made contact with another car and wrecked it,” he continues. “We strapped it to a few trucks and a ramp truck with a winch and kind of pulled it back. We replaced some of the bent suspension parts and raced another 200 laps the next day. After a trip to the frame machine and some work with sledgehammers, it was a Datsun shape again.”

Thanks for sharing my project! It's been a fun build with a lot of broken parts and cheap fixes.
