After our project ramp truck became fully functional, we wanted to have a bit more radio. The original AM radio with the blown speakers was not going to help us much on long trips.
Fortunately, Metra is located within walking distance from our office. While Metra does not sell and install radios, they are one of the largest suppliers in the world of speaker enclosures and stereo installer equipment—like wire and terminal ends. They also have a stereo installer institute.
Bottom line: they have a whole lot of stereo installation knowledge, equipment and more than a few test radios left over from various projects.
The folks at Metra invited us over to check out their facility and let them demonstrate their installation abilities. They also told us we would be nuts to buy a radio, because they had tons of them lying around.
Deciding that this was too good to be true—and not wanting to miss out on a deal—we dutifully brought the truck over and they expertly installed a nice pioneer radio with matching speakers in the kick panels.
We had some 6x9-inch speakers already in boxes that were left over from another project. We left them in the boxes, tucked them behind the seats, and added longer speaker chords. Now we can put those speakers up on the bed when we wanted to have tunes while at an event.
