720 pounds? That just boggles the mind.
The LeGrand weighs just 720 pounds without its body and wing. Figure another 80 pounds for those parts.
Our LeGrand underwent a big restoration and upgrade push prior to the PRI Show. At this point, the chassis is looking good and should handle really well. There was one thing left for us to do this week: Corner weight the car with its new springs.
The aluminum body Koni shocks were a little shorter than the previous steel-bodied units, so we had to change to 5-inch-tall springs. Our perches needed to be adjusted to take this into account. With our 550 lb.-in. front springs and 600 lb.-in. rear springs, our corner weights are pretty good.
We start out at a 49.5 percent cross weight with our driver aboard and a full tank of gas. This swings toward 51 percent as we use up fuel during an event. Interestingly enough, we can corner weight the car with or without the body on it and the relative cross weights remain the same. That’s good news, as it’s pretty easy to make adjustments without the body in the way.
