We fitted the ATL fuel cell into the trunk of the Saab over the weekend. We’ve got our lines run and the fuel pump hooked up, but we are still working out the filler situation. Because we are mounting it inside the trunk and not hanging underneath, the angle and height of the filler fittings come into play. Right now, we’ve got a section of steel tube and several rubber elbows joining the filler on the car with the fill plate on the cell. The fuel goes in Ok on level ground but if there’s any slope downwards to the driver’s side, we’ve got issues. The solution might be to just use a standard fill cap on the cell itself and open the trunk to fill the tank.
Next up, we’ll work on brackets to secure it to the trunk floor.
