Today’s Central Florida Region SCCA was held under mostly bright and sunny skies at the DeLand Airport. We started the day with 36 psi up front and 42 psi out back. (We still haven’t installed our rear anti-roll bar, so the idea was to dial in a bit more oversteer.)
Adding to the fun was the fact the car hasn’t been run in about a month and a half. This was also the first event run with the new color, and most people seemed to dig it.
The first two runs went okay—smooth, slow and kind of safe. The third and final run would have to be the one that counted.
A different path through the slalom gave us a huge push going down the back straight. The little Civic was really flying, and when we started to turn in for the next gate.…
We found that our left-rear wheel was in the marbles, and that was all she wrote. The car spun nicely across the entire course, off the pavement and through some grass and mud, coming to a stop just before a fence.
The steering wheel doesn’t seem misaligned, so right now we’re hoping that the alignment is okay. Obviously that run was waste, meaning we had to stand on one of our earlier runs.
At the end of the day, they had us in third in the five-car class. Considering how our editor drove, he’ll take that finish with no complaints.
Next weekend we’ll be at the Martin Sports Car Club’s Mini-Prix in St. Augustine, Fla.
