And that's the key: just show up. Worst case, you'll have fun.

Maybe sometimes it does pay to just show up. Last weekend’s class win has propelled us to fourth in our local SCCA points race, meaning we’re in the trophies.
Added bonus: We’re also the top-placing, naturally aspirated Miata in our local XSB class.
Last time we put our Garage Rescue Miata on the dyno–back in the year 2000–it made 112 horsepower at the wheels. The Miatas that we face today in the SCCA’s eXtreme Street B class usually outpower us by hundreds of horsepower. How the Miata world has changed.
With two points events left, will we remain in the trophies as the year comes to a close? Don’t place those bets just yet.
But the big take-home lesson here: Show up, have fun, and don’t worry too much about the rest of the field. At the end of the day, you might just surprise yourself.
Next points event is in Lakeland, so about a hundred miles from here.
JG just asked if I'm going.
Hmmmm....
In reply to David S. Wallens :
Go. Lakeland's a fun site with a Miata -- shaped well enough for interesting courses, the pavement ripples a bit in strategic spots, so the grip changes, and there's shade in the paddock.
In reply to Warlock :
You and JG are going to make me get up at like 5:00 in the morning, aren't you?
I don't see Lakeland on the schedule, but good news, this is closer and we don't have to cross Orlando!
Thanks for posting the link to the points for the year. I didn't know that I am in a tie for first place in E Street.
Congrats on the tie for E Street.
And I'm seeing Lakeland events listed for November 5 and December 10. I'm looking here.
Also, Martin's night event takes place on October 30.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I'm registered for the night event. Planning to drive the civic, instead of the Ralliart wagon. There's no steel to attach the magnetic light bar on the Miata.
