Well played.
Even the best football teams have punters on the roster. Why? Because no matter how good a team is at gaining ground, the time will inevitably come when the best decision involves kicking the ball to the other team and start fresh on their next possession.
That’s why we’ve made the tough decision to punt our Volkswagen Fox to the opposite end zone. We’ve had tons of fun with the car over the past few years: The Fox entered our lives when we bought a dirt-cheap used race car, updated the safety gear, made it beautiful with a $200 paint job, then conquered both a 24 Hours of Lemons event at Barber and a ChampCar Endurance Series race during an IMSA weekend on Daytona’s high banks. Now it sits in a corner, still sporting that blown engine that parked it nearly a year ago.
We’d planned to spend the rest of 2020 fixing and campaigning the Fox, but thanks to the pandemic, we spent most of last season at home rather than at the track. And as we face a reopening world in 2021, we also face a harsh reality: We already have racing plans this year, and they revolve around our V6 Miata and our LS-swapped 350Z rather than around this little Volkswagen.
But just like a punted football that can still go on to score a touchdown, we still think our Fox can be a serious contender in the 24 Hours of Lemons, and we’re excited to pass it along to a team ready to finish what we started. That’s why we’ve just listed our entire Fox race effort: Car, safety gear, wings, spares, setup notes, parts car and all, on eBay Motors with no reserve and a starting bid of $0.99. You can see the full details, including a list of everything included, on the car’s auction page.
Happy bidding, and we hope to see the Fox back on track soon.
Text from a friend of mine just now:
I asked my wife if I should place a $15 bid just for fun and she said “No because you might actually win it”
I kinda want to see it shipped to Germany to see if JG fan manage a sub 10 minute lap of the Ring in it.
Serious question, what are the size and offset of the Koenigs?
found it 15x7 (which should be between ET 25-35)
I have an Audi 5 cylinder engine/016 transmission/Quantum Syncro rearend that needs to be in a Fox.
The lack of title is troublesome for Ohio; if it's a car it needs a title.
....aaaaaand I'm outbid. Not that I NEED any more cars or anything.
In reply to captdownshift (Forum Supporter) :
They're 15x7. Not sure on exact offset, but they're meant for a Miata.
