We had a successful weekend in Ft Myers at the first National Tour of the 2006 season. Per finished first in class, while his co-pilot, Kim, finished 4th out of six drivers in H Stock. Per felt that his runs the first day were a little off his normal pace (credit nerves as this was our first big event since Nationals) and was just .18 in the lead on Saturday. Sunday dawned a little brighter and Per ripped off times that were more to his liking, putting a solid 1.8 seconds on the field.
We ran our Kumhos at 47 front and mid 50s in the rear. This helped our car rotate just the right amount, while keeping it nice an easy to drive. We actually kept our Koni FSD shocks on the car at all four corners, instead of experimenting with the Koni double-adjustables. We haven’t really had any warm weather events prior to this large Tour—and we really didn’t want to start experimenting under pressure. That said, the double adjustables are going to have to pretty darn good for us to give up the FSDs…they rock.
Here are the Ft. Myers National Tour results.
And some informal calculations indicate that Per finished 9th on index out of 224 drivers. Not too shabby for a 116 hp pedal car on a horsepower-intensive course. Kim, in her first national level event, finished 80th on index.
