Is Our 818 the Ultimate Street Car?

For the first time, our 818 left us stranded on the side of the road–serves us right for re-using our donor car's coolant lines.

The 818 didn't exactly fit in, but that doesn't mean it isn't the ultimate street car.

We had some stiff competition. Nearly all the major muscle car marques were represented.

We hitched up our Trailer World aluminum trailer and picked up the 818. You know things are bad when an Isuzu Trooper is the more reliable vehicle.

Hopefully it’s a simple fix, because we’re autocrossing on Sunday.

The Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car stopped by our office, so we pulled out the fastest project in our fleet, our Factory Five 818, and joined them on their road rally. The Search for the Ultimate Street Car is a series sanctioned by the Ultimate Street Car Association that focuses on fast, street-driven cars.

Things were going great for a while, until we heard a pop, then a hiss. Then the car started to smell like coolant, and the temperature display on our AiM Sports dash shot up. We pulled over to find a stream of coolant coming from somewhere around the expansion tank, but everything was too warm to attempt a side-of-the-road fix. So, we hitchhiked back to the office, grabbed the truck and trailer, and carried the 818 home. Hopefully it’s a simple fix, because we’re signed up for a Central Florida Region autocross on Sunday.
