In postwar America, a new type of car was emerging: the hotrod. These souped-up cars, once confined to the dry lake beds, could be found blazing down public roads—or so this film makes it appear.
Here is 1950's "Hot Rod," a film that tried to cash in on the hysteria surrounding these cars with a story about a young man building a hotrod against his father's wishes. (Spoiler alert: The protagonist almost gets blamed for a hit-and-run accident. His big redemption, though, is when he uses his car to catch a couple of robbers.)
