Watch JDM icons battle it out at the 1971 Fuji Masters 250km Race | Video

Part of the title of this video roughly translates to “1971 Fuji Masters 250km Race,” which means this footage likely comes from the very first year of the Fuji Grand Champion Series, a championship that raced exclusively at Fuji Speedway and originally welcomed FIA Group B6 cars.

At any rate, the video gives us a glimpse of now-legendary JDM icons duking it out on track.

A shoutout to Oldboy Speedwell who shared this video on the "What is this era or style called with 1970s Japanese cars?" thread.

I thought it was worth sharing with the rest of the class.

Next year's race, in the form of an English promotional film for Mazda. Anyone have a guess where this would have been shown? I can't imagine it'd be on TV, maybe for dealers or to get race sponsors?

I see several models of Datsun but what is this "Nissan" they speak of?

Excellent era. Carburetors, tiny wheels, external oil coolers. Japan was really making special stuff back then.

Tightening the lugs with that old torque wrench! Love it!

Something about small wheels and fender flares is just so sweet.
