Remember Bill Caswell? He's the guy featured in the August issue who took a challenge-budget bmw to a WRC race and finished third. He's currently stuck in San Diego, and needs to be at the Baja 1000 tomorrow. Does anybody nearby who owns a trailer have time to schlep Bill Caswell's car to the race?

Help! Bill Caswell, Jalopnik's very own built-a-$500-WRC-capable-car-in-his-mom's-basement rally driver, has almost finished his Baja 1000 car, but now he's stuck in San Diego and in desperate need of a truck or trailer to get to Ensenada tomorrow morning for tech. Are you In San Diego? Do you have an open trailer and a truck you don't mind loaning to go into Mexico? Willing to helps us leave from the shop in Oceanside/Carlsbad by 8 AM tomorrow? E-mail me here and help us out. He can't do this without you. The author of this post can be contacted at tips@jalopnik.com

Err, last time I checked San Diego was in California and not Nevada, but who's counting. And I'm way too far away unfortunately (not to mention that my truck is in the shop again).

Thanks. I just sent him a PM. Even if he cannot help, he may know people who can. Maybe someone active on the SCCA/NASA forums (I'm not) could start similar threads to this one

Thanks. I'll edit the post

Jebus! I am 100% on Bill's bandwagon, but the fact that no one secured a trailer for this is hilarious :)

Do we know the outcome? It is almost 9am EST so The sun must be ready to come up in Cali soon. I hope he got a trailer! It would be a huge shame to finish the car and not get it to Baja. Does Uhaul let you go out of the country? Probably not...

Is Adam Corrolla on the radio in that part of California? If he talks about it on the radio the help should come in.

I'm wondering if Tim and Margie know anybody out there who they can contact...

I'm in California and have access to a trailer... but I'm on the WAY other side of the state and my trailer is six hours the wrong direction.

It seems to me that if he had any balls at all, he would fire up the E30, and DRIVE it to Baja. It has to be street legal for the race anyway doesn't it?

Come on Bill, time to nut up or shut up.

How do you go through that much effort and not have planned for a trailer?

Couldn't read the FB post, but isn't Bill from Illinois or something? Could it be truck & trailer problems? Last year he had an issue with getting it across the border IIRC, sure as heck hope he makes it! Just brings to mind "Be Prepared!"

Lemons team POSracing jumped to the rescue:

Breamo said: Update: We just got Bill and his team dialed in with our LeMons Team Trailer from POSRacing. The guys just left the shop, after pulling another all nighter, and are now on their way to Baja. Good Luck guys.... (now we need a trailer for Buttonwillow..... Anyone?)

It's not the rally 30, it's actually the parts car!

I'd wager he has a 10% chance to finish the event. I wish him the best, but a hurried build for that event strikes me as...risky.

Anybody want to play over / under?

I'll take the under.

I still think it's rad.

I dunno, I get the pessimism, especially for the Baja 1000, but just like with us Challengers there is always a way to get things done. Where there is a will there is a way.

I'm sure a lot of people said an E30 wouldn't finish the WRC.

Come on Tom, get on the Positivity Train!

I think it's cool as hell, I'm just cursed with too much reality. It's one of those situations where I'd be much happier to be wrong.

Baja is no joke. Go Bill go!

10% chance seems about right. Got a few friends that run early broncos in class 3. That race is brutal on even the most prepped/equipped cars/teams. If he wasn't prepped for the simple logistics of getting there.... or was that a hype/promo thing - shoestring racer has to hitch ride to races, competes, finishes articles, interviews and sponsors to follow (feeling cynical today - and yet - more power to him).

BTW, I think you need to get Bill a job with the GRM team! Poor guy is going to have to go back to a cubical!

Anybody know his number/registration. He's not listed on the SCORE entries as of the 13th. You can do satellite tracking of everything except motorcyles...
