Wow
So spartan utilitarianism. So giant steering wheel. Much style.
I love those bubble nose trucks., the last soda truck my dad bought in 87 was one of those. It was like buying a brand new 50 year old truck. They were the slowest things on the road topping out at about 50 unloaded. With a full load of soda you couldn't go on the highway with it. I haven't seen one around here in years but wouldn't mind finding a little one for around the compound.
I think there were elements of those early European trucks that were even less suited to American interstate driving than Triumph Spitfires. Built for a different purpose, to be used in a different place. If you need a truck that is easily maneuverable in tight spaces, and doesn't have to haul much or go fast...
On the other hand, the new Volvo highway tractors work fine, and ride like you are on a glorious cushion of air.

I'm thinking classic overkill car hauler. Haulin' like it's 1959.
The Mercedes NG cabovers seem to offer a wider range of engines/power. Though I wouldn't mind cruising around in one of those old round nose trucks at 45 mph, blowing smoke and crunching gears. Really, I'm not sure if I'd want to go any faster than that in a 30-40 year old truck with 50-60 year old technology.
Looks par the course for an in-town postal contract truck, those seem to be the oldest, most beat up trucks on the road.

Haha. Last week I could hear the mail man's rod knock for like 10 minutes before he got to my house.
Given the price of Westfalias these days, this looks like a steal at $9300.

I could see myself using one of those to drag my boat (slowly) up and down the coast to go sailing in faraway places
A customer of mine last week had a UNIMOG in his back yard parked next to the car I was working on. It was a surplus West German one, and it was pretty bad ass. I haven't seen one before, there's a couple duece and a halfs around town but not a Mercedes.

You're new here, aren't ya?
There is a guy I see at local car shows with an old merc crystal soda delivery truck that is restored to better than new complete with racks of antique bottles.
It's very cool to see although not really up my alley. Too much attention to fine detail and not enough cobbling together with duct tape and bailing wire.

The red step on the front makes this one look like a panting puppy.

If that were a diesel, I'd be calling the seller right now.
In reply to Woody:
There was one of those vans on the Hudson Valley Craigslist a couple months ago for I think a grand.
GPS do you have a pic or two of the Merc Soda truck?
