Great Moments in $2000 Challenge History: '73 AMC AMX

Steve Singer’s 1973 AMX had a bit of a Mad Max vibe to it: jacked-up rear, mismatched wheels, and lots of flat-black paint. Power came from a 390-cubic-inch AMC engine. The car got extra points for the primer-gray hood.

As with the famed Interceptor V8, some things didn’t go well for Steve’s AMX. A clogged carburetor float and a bad wheel cylinder cropped up just before the event, while a blown trailer tire en route to the track caused him to miss the drag races.
