You could probably do it for Challenge money......

I wasn't talking about the Metro. I meant this car.

Almost the same engine, and the one out of the Metro (especially the non-turbo MG Metro), aka the 'A+ engine' is the slightly better engine.

The problem is we never got the Metro here and we did get the 1300 and the 1300 is not exactly a loved car so engines are cheaper then the Metro lump.

There are Metro lumps here, they have been brought over by importers. I know several that run or have them.

The problem with the 1300 MG is that in the USA they are almost always autotragic....and no Mini enthusiast wants that. When you start piece mealing stuff the values are less, but as I indicated: If you have a 1275 Cooper motor/lump CHEAP I want it. Same goes for a Metro lump w/manual, and even a MG 1300 lump...IF manual...and cheap. ;-)

And as BoxheadTim says, A+ is better yet.

If I had a FWD A-series lump, I would be finding something to stick it in. Why does it need to be manual? I mean couldn't you take an engine out of a 1300 with an automatic and bolt it to any FWD transmission that came with any A-series (doesn't have to be a 1275).

See answer above aka piece meal. You can cobble together whatever you can 'make it take it'.

My original point was that 1275 Cooper motors are NOT cheap. So, let me know if you find some cheap ones. I'll buy them. Same for cheap 1275 Metro lumps.

And to further elaborate...

"The engine blocks of an automatic Mini and a manual gearbox Mini are not interchangeable. An automatic block can be modified to fit a manual gearbox, but it is skilled work" which MOST do not wish to undertake.

So, 1275 manual lumps are where its at. :-)

Ok I didn't realize that.

I have the Tuning the A-series book. And now I really want a MG 1300.
