EDIT:  Nevermind, i found something to try.

i'm looking for squirrel cage blower with enclosure, 12V, in the ballpark of 4-6" OD.  thinking there's got to be some small-ish car heater / defroster that would use something similar, but most of the enclosures i'm seeing in my basic search are part of a much larger assembly.

suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm guessing this is fighting Challenge budget, so the couple of options at McMaster-Carr are out. It makes sense that the actual automotive stuff is all built in unit with heat exchangers.

I'd try Banggood or Vevor or similar for a cheap fan.

Many years ago I bought a cheap package tray defrost fan at the local discount parts place when such a thing existed. I can't imagine there's been a market in decades.

How much air do you need to move? There are tiny ones that go for down around $10, but you'd probably need two or more, and it still wouldn't probably be a fast defrost...

Z car guys use a Kia Sportage part that's available in junkyards pretty easily, if you want a starting point? Similar in size maybe?

Doh! i didn't state the application.  I'm going to use these to blow air through MonZora's header heat shield boxes.

i bought a couple small plastic ones with tiny little wires on them, i'm guessing they're intended for desktop computer cooling? IIRC they're rated at 30 cfm. I haven't installed them yet because (1) i don't have the heat shields complete yet and (2) their outlets are rectangular.

i just ordered a couple of bilge fans, they're in-line vs squirrel cage. they are designed to slip-fit in 3" vent hose and should move about 120 cfm.  These will be much easier to mount and plumb, so i'll find a way to get them into the budget.

I was going to suggest bilge fans, the packaging makes them super easy for this application.

97-03 Cadillac Seville rear blower motor is a junkyard option.

I plan to use one to ventilate the back of the hearse.  I wanted something with adjustable speed and quieter than a bilge fan.  I'm sure there's a more compact and adaptable option out there for your application.

Wow, I shouldn't post before coffee.  It'd be a 98-03 Seville (-04 if in Canada).  Not sure what blower is in that picture above, but this is the one I was thinking of.

I can get some in car pics and rough measurements tonight once swmbo gets home.

Front of the center console.  There's a slider for speed and a knob to adjust the blend door on the back of the center console behind the arm rest (so it can be adjusted from the back seat).  I hope this means it's a stand alone system and doesn't need a computer or module to operate.  I can't find the FSM with the description of the system, but here's a diagram from the center console removal section.  Blower in red, blend door in green, exit in blue.

They have in-line blowers for air-cooled VW heater tubes, also in-line bilge pump blowers. Might these be the way to go?

"bezos personally guarantees they'll be here by 10PM tomorrow."

We have an Amazon warehouse on the edge of town, I order stuff before lunch and it gets here well before supper. Weird, as I can begin tracking the package about ten minutes after I order it . . .
