My son and I are planning to build a cyclekart this summer but the rules are rather restrictive and it ends up costing nearly as much as a Challenge car for a glorified gocart

What if there was something simple that could be built with a fairly modest budget that could actually be registered for road use (in my state) when it was done?

Rules?  I don't know, I kinda spitballin here, discussion welcome;

Has to generally resemble cars from the 1900's through 1948.

Body on frame construction.

Body cost (steel or glass) not included in budget.

Live rear axle.

Gentleman's agreement to keep it under 300hp to the wheels.

Wheelbase and track limits

One set of tires budget exempt.

Maybe I'm dreaming outloud...

Hmmmm ... I have three '28 and older that could be built for Challenge money.

I had to pass on an absolute Model T honey hole last year. Most of 12 cars, trucks and a couple of C cabs.  Owner wanted it all gone at less than scrap and l didn't have the means, time, or help.  So, I know that they are out there, but aren't as cheap as they were formerly.  I blame the rat rod fad.
