VW Caddy - Diesel.

1981 with 158,000 miles.

Ex-Canadian Military vehicle. Lifted 2", huge bumpers and a pintle hook. It also sports a bigass whippy antennae, Mil-Spec of course.

It has new shifter linkage, some of the nylon bushings have not been installed but I have them.

The Good: Pretty rust free for a forty year old vehicle. The tan interior is rip free but has the certain patina only found in deseasals. It has a sliding rear window. Hook up the antennae and you can get your favorite radio station on Mars.

The Bad: I have the tool and am in the process of timing the mechanical Bosch injection pump. It should be running this weekend. There's a drain on the electrical system in the Hazard Flashing area, I pulled that fuse for now.

The Ugly: Ex-Military, you know it's Camo. Pintle hook is a real shin biter.

The Deal Here's where I am: I bought this for $1500 because my son needed a second vehicle but he has no place to work on one (NYC). I thought I would make this safe, run OK and give it to him but it's too time consuming for me.

I pulled a trailer to Michigan to get this, trailered it back all in 25 hours. It's sitting on the trailer now, an easier working height. If you want to cut a deal for the trailer too we can do that.

I have $1500 in the Caddy. Brandy new battery, new in jectors, way too much time. I'd like to get my investment back, about $1700. If you want the trailer I'll take $2200 on the package, $700 by itself. It's a 6 X 10 ft. with 3500 lb. axles, no brakes and an aluminum deck. Registered as a homemade landscape trailer so it's ~$10 to register. I removed the fenders on the return trip from Michigan because of the potholes I saw; afraid of punching out a tire.

The ramps roll between the open deck on rollers. Everything on the trailer is brand new; 3" channel, aluminum deck, coupler, torsion axles, tires etc.

That's gorgeous.....I can't take on another project, but dang....three years ago that's exactly what I was looking for. I really wanted to do the greasecar conversion.....I may still get around to doing that someday.

Can you help me understand what "pretty rust free..." means?

Where I now live, it means a couple little bubbles on the rockers.

When I lived in the Northeast, it meant the floorboards had not yet completely fallen OUT OF THE CAR, or the frame rot was limited to holes smaller than my fist.

Is that truck as straight as it looks, or is the flat paint deceiving?

It's as straight as it appears.

(from memory) There was a strip of see through rust directly under the driver's seat, it wasn't like thick metal to thin to nothing. This was almost rip like, I ground it down and covered the area with rust nuetralizer and fiberglass.

There's a spot where the dead pedal would be, left of the clutch.

There are small spots at each rear wheel, the camo is flaked off and you can see shiney new metal.

This car spent its life inside hangers and such in Canada, it was a worker bee for their Air Force. I bought it from a guy in the US Army working the Supply end. He grabbed it before it could go to auction.

lets hear a little more about the 5spd SVX and that 2.0T subie. Justy is 4wd isn't it?

I built the SVX. It's not a $2K car. Konis, G/C's, 4:11 final drive, lightweight flywheel, performance clutch, Claret (a wine color). Nice car. I've got $8K in it, I'll sell for $3500, or perhaps trade (+-) cash.

2.0T is from a low mileage WRX. Complete including turbo, intercooler, and all accessories. Threw a timing belt and needs a couple of valves. Easy fix.

Oy, this is a garage sale, not a garage fill but tell me about the Europa.

Complete car (sans interior). Restorable, but it is a project. Body is in prime.

My wife would totally kill me, but for no real good reason I really want that thing.

Oh dear, I see a road trip in my near future if someone doesn't snap this up soon. We (cousin and I) have already done one road trip to get a Deisel Rabbit. NC to Ponca Nebraska to NC in 30+ hours soooo. I'll let him decide.
