The cheaper, wider, and more audacious the better. Must be pedestal mount.

Think old btcc, c5r, etc.

I have a vision for my challenge car, and am quickly running out of budget. Ebay wings are 50-75.....

I hadn’t looked at these before.  Is there any real downforce to be had from this?  My super budget Miata wants to look more “race car” too.

Will the double element wing get me double the downforce?

No, but I'll get you double the "sweet wing bro!"

Nothing to add other than just mentioning c5r got me all tingly.

In reply to KyAllroad (Jeremy) :

The second one is the one I had actually planned to purchase however I'm running on a budget room. Not actually doing this for downforce. If I get some that's a bonus but it's not the driving Factor

I'd be making my own. Maybe shave down a 2x6 and put speed holes in it for lightness. Or, if you're more serious, an afternoon with some alloy sheet, a tube for a spar, tin snips and rivets would get you something as good as the old World Challenge wing from 2002.

I tried that and failed miserably. Maybe time for a revisit of that idea.....

I have a superbly ugly one that was on an RX8 you can have for shipping.

Just spitballing off Keith's idea, but maybe start with a free washer or dryer or that stove that broke a couple weeks ago. Cut off one of the corners about 6 inches into either side, so you have a big 6x6 L, then work on flattening it out some, weld on some bolt up risers and man this is getting ugly quick, Nevermind.

If you check the 12 Gauge Garage thread on garage journal, Jack Olsen goes over his build of his 911’s wing. All diy I think with a bunch of backyard aeronautical engineering thrown in for fun.

If there’s any place nearby with wrecked semi trailers, a piece of aluminum sheet from the side of a van trailer should work.

I actually have a bunch of sheets of 03 aluminum. Got $0.30 a piece in them. My failure came when trying to build the underlying structure of the wing. I'll post pictures when I get a minute and show you guys what I was doing. Maybe I should start a new thread for how to build a giant freaking ricer wing

I'm guessing this is for the challenge miata?

May I suggest this? Seems like you could build on fairly cheap, and get some actual benefits possibly. (I am not even close to an aero expert though, just throwing it out there.)

That design would be far simpler and more effective.  But not the look I'm going for....

Wonder if i can make both, onr for effect and one for visual effect....

Just build a Baron Von Richthofen tri-wing on the trunk. Life-size, but angled downward so you don’t actually take flight...although that may earn you some bonus points.

I wondered if it was more for visual effect like the AMC. Just throwing it out there. I think it looks cool. ;)

DIY airplane guys know how to build wings with sheet alloy and rivets. It's not hard. Big spar down the middle. Cut ribs and fold over the edge to make a flange. Rivet the skin to the flange. Walla.

Any chance you can bring it to Columbia and I can just drive down there to save the cost of shipping?
