my buddy bought a '98 Z28 new, black over grey, 6MT, T-Top.  4-season daily until replaced by new GTI in 2011.  became daily again for a few months in 2012 when GTI got crashed, has been sitting and only driven 3-4x per year.  new clutch kit at 145k.  now has 151k.  it's just in his way at this point and he wants it gone.  AC compressor is fubar, brake line to rear axle is leaking.  I can get it below challenge $, which makes me curious: are there other LS1/T56 cars out there below $2k?

That's not the ideal LS1 donor, but it's fully serviceable. Market value is the market value of the LS1 and T56, so under challenge pricing is a steal.

That's what the MG was built from.

I picked up an ugly high mileage 2000 T-56 Trans Am for $1500.  But I don't believe that's very common.

Was that sale "open to public" or did you get an insider deal? I'm thinking whether or not $1500 is a challenge-acceptable FMV.

I've got LS engine mounts, but I'd need to swap diff gears to make the T56 work in the Sonoma. Truck diff is 3.08

If you can get that for under challenge budget, you're stealing it.  Wrecked cars with high mileage are selling for more than that on CoPart and IAAI.  I've been watching them lately.

Also, if you pass on the deal, PLEASE give me his contact info.  I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

Typically a T56 and LS1 are worth about 2k a piece depending on the condition.  When a good running LS1/T56 car goes for under 5k someone got a good deal.

If you pass on that deal a lot of us are going to want to smack you, if you take that deal we still are going to want to smack you.

I bought a 99 ls1 engine from a camaro for $1100 complete as a runner(no harness or pcm but yes accessory drive) and it was the cheapest one not needing rebuild that I could find.  T56's around here are $1800ish

This is all making me think keep Sonoma, buy Z28, finish MonZora as planned, then next year part Z28 and put LS in MonZora, moving LT to Sonoma.

or just buy Z28 and part it out after the Challenge.

I like the LS in MonZora idea but by next year you mean 2021 or like 2025?

I missed out on a LS1/T56 car with 200k that ran and drove for $1500.

I bought one for $900 two years ago.  The transmission had no 5th and 6th gear.

I flipped it as is for $2500.00.  It sold immediately for that.

So, a 97 LT1/T56 is worth less than half of a 98+ LS/T56?

FMV is definitely more than the challenge budget.

Deals are out there for people that have given up on their cars and want them gone. I have purchased 2 LS1/T56 for $2000years ago one that would pop out of 4th, the other had a broken axle. Paid cash same day the cars were listed for sale.

Edit: Not sure I agree with my first statement now. After I realized the rule just says find 3 similar sales and we have 4 purchases in this thread $2000 or under.
