I need a new GPS unit. preferably less than 100 dollars...don't really care about the brand as long as it works with United States maps...I would go ebay, but electronics scare me on ebay. you cant ever tell where they are coming from, or even if they work...
let me know what you have.
I just use my iphone. Works for me.
I don't have an Iphone...nor can I afford one...
incidentally, I don't have a working speedometer, so I need a GPS to go basically anywhere.
For the last few months, I have been using my girlfriends Garmin Nuvi 200, and I love it, but I am moving south, and she is staying in MI for a few more months until I find a job therefore I need to get my own...
craigslist? If you found a local GPS, at least you could test it before embarking.
Where are you moving to?
how are Tom Tom units? I have used one once, but it was a really expensive model, how are the cheaper Tom Tom One series models?
... Damn Brownell... I am having another one of these: http://magellan.factoryoutletstore.com/details/15439-5809/Magellan-RoadMate-1000-Series-Roadmate1400-980-0144-001-RM1400SGXUH.html shipped to me from VW ;) but you can get one of these : http://magellan.factoryoutletstore.com/details/15439-9830/Magellan-RoadMate-1000-Series-RoadMate-1200SPC-R.html for $120.00.
Or check these out: http://magellan.factoryoutletstore.com/cat/3570/RoadMate-Series-Refurbished-GPS.html
I can't help with the GPS, but if you need a place to crash on the way down, you know where I live.
Corey, thanks for the offer, but you are about 5 hours west out of the way...
John, I take that as an endorsement for Magellans? Never used one, how is the user interface?
stick out finger, find your way.
You aren't going to upgrade the Magellan Roadmate 1400 to make popcorn, but it will get you around and tell you your speed. I got both of mine for free as rewards for doing my job, so yes I love them for what I paid for them.

I have had no experience with the newest Tom Tom One models, but I did go through 4 of the things in the span of a year in '07.
I loved my Tom Tom units though, the interface was great, I could customize the display to give me all sorts of interesting information, and the downloadable material is kinda quirky...but neat. The biggest downfall was the complete lack of reliability of my units. Plus, Tom Tom has you ship the units back to them on your dime...and take their sweet time shipping one back.
I have a Garmin Nuvi now, that I picked up for the princely sum of $100 bucks on black friday...and while the interface is a little more wonky than the Tom Tom, it has been an incredibly reliable unit. YMMV
Bradley, If you have $100.00 I will sell you the one I just got. New in box unopened.

Tigerdirect sells refurb units for about $70. Might want to check them out.
