Hey everyone, so I am looking around for a decent rallycross vehicle in the vancouver wa area. I have up to 1500$ to spend on the car if it's looking right. I wold prefer something similar to the mechanics of a miata as that is what I am familiar with working on. If anyone sees anything on craigs or is wanting to sell a car please let me know!

I would go with the golf. Those festivas are terrible unless they have a SHO engine stuffed in the back.
What should I be looking for mechanically in the golf? There is also an 800 dollar golf gti 16v for sale that runs perfect but he said was ran into a ditch. How see parts costs for them etc

Looks like a great find, just need to make sure there is no rot that I am missing. Is there any info on a build thread or a "what to do first" guide for the engine like I was able to find for the miata? You seem to keep cropping up on every forums Oldskewl so I am relying on you to help me with the rebuild I will undoubtedly do on this car once I get it.
The engine should be/likely is a 3TC. This is a 1.8 liter hemi headed 4 cylinder. The "T" series has been known to take TONS of boost. In N/A guise its design provides decent low end, with many options to build them. The top of the line N/A would be the 2 valve per cylinder DOHC head. the twin cam heads were never imported by Toyota, but there are a few around if you really want to run it.
A stock 3TC made about 85hp
You can run a 4AGE, it will require a few changes - the most significant is changing the front crossmember and swapping the steering from worm and roller to rack and pinion.
Finally... you can swap just about anything in there....
