I'm looking for a smallish manual transmission car, ideally located within 2 hours of Dayton, OH. I'm already scouring the craigslist for escorts, proteges, tercels, etc. An ideal candidate would have minimal rust, and not be in need of any important mechanical work, i.e: I'll be able to drive it home without issue. I've never spent more than a grand on a car, so I'd like to keep that going.

Anyone have a line on something that meets my criteria?

If you look on the Columbus craigslist, there is a '93 Tercel for 1200.

I usually put in 2500 as my max, and go from there.

Good luck, ;)

The search is over, I picked up a '91 SE-R on Saturday

Did you get that one that was on the Dayton CL? How did that turn out?

It was on the Cincy CL. It's alright so far...

As with any $750 car (at least all the ones I've bought) it's not perfect, but who wants a perfect car? Among other things and a bit of Ohio rust, it is a little loud with a ghetto cat-less exhaust and the interior is missing some trim pieces and the headliner. I'll add it to reader's rides section when I get some pictures.

Still, an SE-R for $750 isn't a bad deal. I looked at it pretty hard myself for awhile. If you need a door (red -driver's side) let me know.

Yeah, the driver's door is a little wonky... It doesn't quite latch all the way closed. PMing you stan.

Car is soon to be added to reader's rides.

Probably needs new door hinges. With the seatbelt roller mechanism in the door it's extra heavy and wears on the pins. New hinges were about $65 from the dealer a couple of years ago and make a huge difference. Returned you PM...

Good score. The headliner delete is pretty standard amongst those cars-if it has a sunroof, it probably leaks (or did at some point-mine had been siliconed shut). The hinge pins wear out on all of them, replacing that makes a world of difference.

I miss mine. Still the only FWD car that put a big stupid grin on my face, every time, even driving it at legal speeds.
