On the off chance you have a factory 5 818 project going on, I'm looking for an impreza Sedan shell. I'm looking from 2002-2007. Ideal is 2002-2003. Must be a sedan. I'd consider early impreza sedan and coupes as well, 2001 and earlier. Condition, looking for rot free. If you can see through the rear quarter, I'm not interested. Body itself can have dings and dents. Ideally looking for it with all body panels, glass and lights. Accident damage ok, if the suspension pick up points are still straight. I don't need motor, transmission, suspension etc, but if it's present that is ok. Anywhere in New England, NY, PA, NJ and PQ are fair game. Price is dependent on condition, but I'm looking to do this as cheap as possible. I currently have a bugeye race car, but it's rusted more than I like, and the cage is an older spec, so I'd like to replace it this off season.

I'm planning on pulling the engine from my Legacy within the week. Once that car is back together (assuming all goes well), I'd like to pick up another EJ25 to refresh and keep in the garage. Maybe we can find a car and split it.

Or you could buy this (too rich for me):

That one is a maybe. I could use a spare ej25 for my 2000 RS as well.

That would be double the asking price down here... even with the overheating issue. That said, I would love to find similar down here.

That's because every other car is a Subaru up here.

In reply to Woody:

Makes sense I guess.

Still no such thing as a cheap Subaru down here. even the beat to hell, needs bearings, head gasket is blown, transmission is broke, has no title etc. They still want 1500 or better. That's ok, it gives me faith I might get near the price point I'm going to ask when I put the SVX back on the market/

I might know where there is one. Bent is OK as long as the suspension pick up points are not shifted?

In reply to Knurled: Bent is OK. I should clarify, that pick up points need to still be straight(ish). If it is bent enough that I can't make a driver out of it without significant pulling/straightening it might not be worth the time. If it can be hammered out, that is totally cool. As long as I can make it function, it's fair game. I do have a lead, on a good caged shell via work, but it is the 2008 body style where less of my current stuff transfers.

What are you doing with the bugeye

it will donate every part to the new shell, redundant parts will be spares. Cage is a mixture of 1.5 inch 4130 and DOM tubing, it will be cut out and used for smaller projects. What remains of the shell will be sold for scrap.

Best of luck. It takes a hell of a lot of patience to find a shell for a Bugeye.

Either someone has one and thinks it is worth a fortune because the car still runs on 3 cylinders, or they are rust buckets. I eventually found one and it was only an hour from home but it took me 6-7 months.

Hey Sachilles, I have a buddy in the Philly region that is deep into an 818 project.. I know he has a good (looking from pictures) shell to unload, so I sent him this link. Do you have an email address or phone number to share so he can contact you? I don't think he's on the forum.

You can send it to me @ my username @ gmail..

Cheers,

Yeah, it can be hard. In beating the bushes, I've come up with a few options. I've discounted the 2008 shell, as it will just be too much, as not enough stuff transfers over. I have one bugeye locally, and I'm looking at a 2004 after work today.

...and I'd add, that is why I'm doing this now. The hillclimb season ended last weekend, and the next one is in May.

Good luck! Been looking for a replacement 2.5RS or 93-01 impreza since I moved to the west coast over a year ago. They're currently trading at unicorn prices for cars that look like they were fished out a ravine.

In reply to RoadWarrior: That body style is definitely harder to find....I do have one of those (2000 RS coupe) as my daily driver currently. It's quite clean I'm tempted to turn it into the race car, rather than daily drive it through the salt/winter. I'd rather race a 4 door though, as it's easier to service stuff if you have rear doors to open.

It's good to hear someone else say that.

there is a buttload of reasons. If you have stock glass, a strut change is a total pain in a 2 door Subie. Arguably more rigid frame. Easier access to fuel pump. Two more windows to go down for ventilation. Two more doors to put stuff in transit, even with the cage in the way. Adjust harness belts is a lot easier when you can get to the back of the seat.

I do think the impreza coupe looks nice, and it's easier to widen its rear fenders when a door isn't in the way.

Two door GC-body Impreza prices are a bit crazy everywhere, and anything with a 2.5 engine (swapped or not) in it also commands a bit of a price premium.

I'm looking for a 1st gen 2.2 litre Outback Sport in green because everybody seems to hate them.

I have a buddy with a wrx that I believe is solid aside from the hole in the engine.
