Yeah- cheapest I've seen a renesis rebuild kit is about $1500, you could easily do the work yourself and even paying asking have it back to top condition under $4k, and they blue book at around $5k. If it were closer and I were looking for another buy-fix-enjoy-sell project I'd be all over it, I can't imagine the Renesis is that much harder to overhaul than my FC's 13B was.
Guess SWMBO will be getting an RX8 soon-ish if they're dropping this far.
We'd rather get an 09+, but for the prices of the early ones, i'm not against getting one like this that needs a motor, dumping in a nice big bridgeport, and swapping rear ends.
New online price for a short block is 3k plus shipping.... Good thing its a manual too, seems like there is an automatic "tax" making it twice as expensive.
If I had the $, I'd be there driving it back.
Damn, too bad its sunroof and leather or I would snatch that. or use as donor for reney swaped FC...
That is a steal and for under 5k for car and engine (after core is sent back) you can be tearing E36 M3 up!!

I second that thought....
Is there any sort of even-close-to-documented swap for these where everything works when you're done?
In reply to tuna55:
That's my question as well. I seem to remember there being issues with the CAN('t)BUS and making everything work, I may remember that incorrectly though.
When that blue one was for sale here in Columbus for $750, I did some checking for swaps, and found this:

I am trying to sell one of these (that works) and all of the busted-ass ones are driving the price down into the dirt.
The V6 seems like a good option, too.
