The top is worth most of that price.
Mostly the rule with fj40s is, a presentable, running, driving fj is $20k. It's $20k if you buy one for $20k, it's $20k if you buy a $10k one and fix it, it's 20k if you buy a $500 one and fix it with the $19.5. The labor, you never get back.
I really like mine, it was $6500 and now I'm 15 deep, it runs but has no exhaust yet and it's about to get a full aqualu aluminum body, that will be painted lexus rx350 pistachio pearl. Paint will be protected by a full exocage, it's on 35/12.5/17 bf km2s on walker evans beadlocks, and it has recaro seats. It'll be sprung over on old man emu springs with bilstein remote reservoir dampers. It's got a spankin new man-a-fre 2f (4.2l) crate motor, I have a td04/13t turbo for it, It'll be tbi, low boost. I'm excited

People in states that don't require titles for cars that old got time for that.
Would it be worth buying and parting out? I like them, but I don't need it or want it as a vehicle. But it's close by, so it wouldn't be a big deal to go look at it or haul it home. I'd need to be able to make significant money off of it for it to be worth it for me. I already have too much to do.
