EDIT: SOLD SOLD SOLD
I picked up this Mk3 a few months ago with the intention of getting it fixed up as a vintage racer or something. But I'm having so many issues with My '70 + I've decided that I just don't want to do another GT6 right now. Plus I don't have the time or money to do this one the way it should be done. So this one is available. Make a reasonable offer. I'd say you could part it out and make some money on the deal if you wanted to.
Details: Rust in the usual places, but nothing that isn't fixable for anyone with bodywork/welding skills. Body is complete and fairly solid. Can't tell how much bondo or anything, because the P/O put about 4 bad coats of paint on it...but the wings are solid. Hood is no good, for several reasons (but again, could probably be repaired as most of it is a big dent on the front and knocked in driver's side fender, plus some non-fatal rust IMO). Floors are so-so. Passenger floor is reasonably good with only some rust at the rocker edge. Driver's has some fiberglass repair done and is solid, but would want to be replaced. Rockers seem fairly solid, but do have some rust on the inner side and front end beneath the hood wings. I would replace them, but you could probably get away with some patching.
Doors are in very good shape and amazingly they actually align well and close smoothly. Pretty sure they were replacements for the originals. Windows roll up and down but with some effort. RH door handle isn't hooked up but probably works. LH door handles are good.
Interior is pretty bare-bones, but it does have a dahsboard and some of the electrics work. Also has one seat in it. I basically gutted most of the interior so at least it's clean-ish. Has a new plastic transmission tunnel cover as well.
Engine fires up easily and idles smoothly. Carbs are way out of tune so it runs rough under any load. Compression tested and is good/even all 6 cylinders. Engine idles at normal temp and oil pressure is good. Radiator seems good. Nothing leaking that I can tell, other than the usual drips here and there.
Tranny and diff seemed ok in the 200 feet I drove it when I got it but can't say for sure....neither was put under any real load and I would probably rebuild or at least crack open and check them before any real driving. It's a 3.27 4-speed non-OD. I will provide a 2nd 3.27 diff (disassembled) for spares, in case the current diff needs work.
Left rear upright is removed, so the car cannot be driven. I have put a right-hand upright there temporarily (attached top and bottom) so the car is at least a roller. I have two spare LH uprights, one of them was shot-peened and nicely cleaned up and I have new bearings/seals with that. They are not assembled though. Also have a couple rear hubs.
Rest of suspension is there and most of it looks to be restoreable at a glance.
Car has original steelies in ok shape with spitfire center-caps.
etc etc.
Parts I can include with the sale if desired depending on offer - 2nd 3.27 diff, complete but disassembled. (included no matter what) - 2nd rear hatch with good glass (would need a good offer) - various rotoflex axle components - a pair of GT6+ seats, recovered a while back and in pretty good shape (would require good offer) - other misc. stuff. (some rubber, trim, etc)
Car is located just outside washington D.C. in Fairfax Virginia
Let me know if interested.
