I've wanted one for a long time, but the steel chassis rust like crazy. I wouldn't mind dropping the body over a Locost frame.
I'd really like to find a Sonett II and do something like this:
It's nice but damn you gotta be limber to get in and out of one. I'm too old now to put up with one.

Wow is that a cool idea. It would look stockish under the hood if you used the V4 or ford V6.
My uncle bought one in the late 70s, early 80s (not sure if he bought it new). It was my first ride in a "sports car". He has it squirreled away in his garage with my name on it. Sadly I don't have a safe spot to store it. That particualr one has been listed for quite some time.
if you guys saw our lemons race car Saab Sonett on b5 audi frame . We created the one car that could've kept Saab in the black. We started with a 2.8 v6 but now have a drivetrain from a 6 speed a6 . Twin turbo Quattro HP2 brakes I love this car and how ugly it is . Of course I cant post pictures but I can email to someone of they pm me

That's brilliant! Seriously. make it look just like that picture too.

Look at the pictures. That's North Carolina extensive rust, not Mass or Michigan extensive rust. That doesn't look bad at all.
Rust certainly is a relative term. Being originally form upstate NY it takes s lit ti be fatal in my book
I'm probably delirious from the flu right now, but this Locost/Sonett merge seems like a great idea to me at the moment. Seems like a fair amount of them (for a 40 y/o low production niche car) sitting out there with rusted out chassis.
If only I had time, money and skillz to make it happen.
There's a Sonett III that I pass on the way to Monticello Motor Club that's sitting in field and has literally broken in half. I have a picture of it somewhere but I can't find it.
