Being a 20v car, you could probably part it for more. A few years ago there was one in a u-pull yard around here. I bought the engine to use some of the parts, and sold the head, oil pan, distributor, etc., then also mentioned in the classified ad that I could get other parts from the car. I think I made over $1,000 from that car just from two weekend trips to the u-pull.

That's the engine you want. Just buy it, part it out, and put the engine in a 90, 4k, etc., oh, and boost the piss out of it.

Can the 200s be made to handle at all, or are they really the boat they appear to be? I believe this also has the stranger transmission?

There are probably no direct-fit performance suspension components for it, like springs and shocks. Whatever lengths you had to go to for better parts would cost a lot. Is this a toy car, or a driver? If you're willing to throw out most of the interior, I bet that would help a lot.

And if you're interested in drag racing at all, check this out:

It would be both. Mainly an amusing street car that i can take to the drag strip and shock and awe, but wouldn't mind some back road run or an occasional autox fun run or track day if i don't feel like messing with the Celica. I'd rather keep most of the interior in it if it's in good shape. This car DOES seem to already have H&R springs, Koni adjustable fronts, and bilstein rears, so i guess that would be a start. But i also imagine this beast could benefit from some nice beefy sway bars, too.

No real purpose, i just hate cars that don't handle well.

I am VERY interested in drag racing.

Poor reading comprehension on my part. I didn't notice that stuff in the ad. I wonder if those parts are specifically made for the car, or bodged from other models. If so, I wonder if they are valved correctly for the weight of that thing. Anyway, that sounds like a good deal. Buy that car, play with it, and if you get bored, remove the engine. I drove a 1990 tq (10v) home recently. Very comfy and surprisingly nice to drive. I didn't play with it too much in the corners due to a brake problem, but did a couple hard launches to get the quattro experience. The thing just jumps forward when you dump the clutch. Acceleration-wise, I'd say it's defintely a notch below my 328i. You'd expect that from a heavier car with less power.

Also look at this page to see what can be done with the 20v: http://www.80tq.com/20vtMotor.html

93celicaGT2;

I knew that was the motor you wanted, didn't know about the car though.

Yeah... that's the motor. The car itself is making me gag the more i read about it though. If it was a wagon, that'd be another matter, but holy crap. 3600lbs, 193.4' long, and 56.1" high.

OUCH.

I am with Corey on this one, but it, keep the engine, part the rest and then find something cooler to stick it in man.

So, 89 lbs less than the current M3?

Also why i have no lust for the current M3.

Anyways, the 90 i went and looked at was OK... just not really quite as nice as what i'd like to hold out for. Too much initial project for my tastes right now.

Actually, it might be the first M3 I've ever been excited about. I'm surprised it's such a porker, but it's still faster and better handling than any car I'm ever likely to own, particularly as a daily driver.

My point is just that weight isn't everything. You want a fast comfortable car, right? That 200 has a lot of potential. I guess a 4000/80/90 with the turbo motor is more of a hot rod, but those cars are still pigs too, relatively speaking. I'm not trying to convince you, because I'm not sure I would do it either. It's just something to think about.

Yeah, i definitely understand. The 90 is a bit of a pig by my definition as well, but 3000lbs is a lot easier to swallow than 3600lbs.

A lot of it is the dimensions and the looks, too, though. The 200 looks HUGE.

But that all said... if this 200 is still kicking around when i accumulate a little more towards budget this month, i'll probably still pick it up.

I just REALLY like lightness. Best mod ever. My heaviest car right now still tips the scales at under 2700lbs.
